Abby is our first sheltie. Strange actually if you consider how well she fits in our family. Years ago my love from sheltie's began during a visit to a sheltie breeder. And ever since then I’ve been dreaming of my own sheltie. And by the end of 2007 it was finally a reality!
Abby is best friends with our chihuahua Ashley. They do everything together and have been BFF's from the very first moment they met.
Abby's character is typical for a sheltie. Intelligent, friendly, playful, a bit reserved in the beginning and very cheerful. She is the sunshine of the house and is really never down. Abby also is a bit submissive but most of this is an act.
Abby loves tennis balls. And by love I really mean LOVE! From the moment she laid eyes on a tennis bal, it was love at first sight. Her tennis ball obsession goes as far as that during the pregnancy of her first litter 15 minutes before her water broke she was still playing in de garden with a tennis bal. Yeah she can be a strange girl sometimes... But most of all Abby is a sweetheart who loves to cuddle. She loves to sit on your lap and be cuddled, that's here favorite thing in the whole world!
Winter is Abby's favorite season. Abby loves the snow! In the winter of 2009/2010 we had a lot of snow here up north in Holland. While Ashley was doing everything possible to stay warm and everybody was complaining about the weather Abby couldn't care less... She had snow! She plays outside for hours during the winter and doesn't want to come in.
In the summer of 2009 Abby became a mother. She was very caring and protective of her pups. A bit too caring sometimes (she really wouldn't leave them out of here sight). Abby was also a very gentle mother. Saying goodbye to her pups was really hard for Abby (and for us of course) so she was very happy when she found out that one of the pups of her 2nd litter would stay with us. With the staying of daughter Eevee, Abby started a second youth. Those two have such an amazing bond together and have been inseparable from the start.
Unfortunately in April 2011 everything changed. After we got some very bad news Abby couldn’t take the stress anymore and went into an epilepsy attack. What followed were 10 terrifying minutes and unfortunately that wasn’t Abby’s only attack. We then started medication Abby and of course we decided then and there right away that we wouldn’t breed with her anymore. If epilepsy is hereditary is something that the opinions are not clear about, some say it is others say that there isn’t enough prove for that. Personally I can’t support breeding with Abby anymore because of what happened so that’s why we made this decision. At the beginning of 2012 we tried to take Abby off of her medication for a little while but had to put her back on them after a terrible attack about 2 months later (that lasted well over an hour).

Although she has these problems Abby is still an active dog which does adjust very well. At times when I don't feel well she can spend hours sleeping and not complaining about a thing. She has an beautiful character and look, we sure have fallen for her big time. And no matter what, in sickness and in health... We’ll be there for her 100% and won’t love her any less for it either!
