Ashley, my baby... My mother always says 'Ashley is your baby and Abby your dog'. And I actually have to agree with her on that. Ash is very special to me. She came into our home in a difficult time just 2 weeks before one of our dogs was laid to rest on a (very) young age. She was there for me during that time and that's why our bond is so close. And of course she is a chihuahua so she is a little bit spoiled of course...
Ash is our first chihuahua and it took a lot of work to find her. But after calling breeders all over Holland and Belgium we finally found this beautiful girl. Ashley was born in Monster. And how coincidental that also turned out to be her nickname at dog school!
Ashley was the perfect dog in class, she always was the one who had to do everything first so that the others could see how it was done. But when it comes up to other dogs... No Ashley is not a fan of other dogs. And that's putting it nicely... So we where very surprised that she had that click with Abby from the start. Of course we had figured that they would get along eventually (we bought Abby as a play mate for her so that was the intention) but we didn't expect for that to happen in just a view minutes! But ever since the start they have been BFF's, and I think they will stay like that forever. Also Ashley accepted Abby's pups right away, maybe that also has something to do with their special bond. Abby’s kids are allowed to do almost anything to her, amazing to see!
With Abby’s daughter Eevee Ashley has had a great bond from the start too. When she was just 2 weeks old Ashley already stood by the puppypen barking and howling to get to her because she wanted to play. And it still is like that... Eevee is also allowed to do things to Ashley that Abby isn’t even allowed to do and ever since Abby got sick they even grew closer and closer.
Ashley is a real chihuahua girly girl. Photogenic, loves attention and doesn't like to get wet, really like a lady. And demanding, fierce and very easily cold, like a chihuahua. Chihuahua's are originally from Mexico where they're housedogs. So chihuahua's aren't used to the cold Dutch weather which we notice with Ashley especially. Some chi's adjust well to the Dutch weather but Ashley is not one of those...
I’ve been trying to get a bit more active with Ashley lately. I noticed that she really was missing learning stuff and just being busy so I started looking for something we could do together. Eventually we ended up with dogdance so that’s what Ash and I are working on at the moment (along with some agility in our backyard every once an a while). Unfortunately Ashley was diagnosed with epilepsy during the summer of 2011 after a series of tests and medical examinations all through the Netherlands so ever since than we've been taking it easy on the classes again. She also got an acute hernia in the beginning of 2012 which she is still recovering from as we speak but luckily is doing much better already.
We never bred with Ashley and she can no longer have pups also. In 2008 Ashley got sick and we decided to operate on her to avoid even worse. It was a hard time on her (pain, medication, rest) but she made it out just fine eventually. She even got a nicer personality out of it besides... She thankfully still got to be a bit of a mommy as 'auntie' Ash with Abby's pups so it was a win-win for all of us.
